If you have been working for some time and earned minimum amount when you worked, you could avail of unemployment insurance once you lost your job through no fault of yours. Furthermore, you have the right also to claim unemployment insurance if you work part-time or your hours are cut drastically during the week that you claim for your benefits.

When working part-time, you should report all your income during a specified week to your state’s unemployment office. You should also report all your self-employment or part-time employment income so the office could accurately calculate your benefit amount each week. Some companies will reimburse you for unused vacation leaves the moment you are separated from your work. If you receive vacation pay, the unemployment office will deduct the amount that you earned from the benefit you will receive.

You could report any part-time pay weekly over the phone. Failure to do this could lead to you charged for fraud because this is part of the rules and regulations when claiming your unemployment insurance. In addition to that, you will also be required to pay back all unemployment insurance you received as a result of your failure to report the income you received.
