If you have worked for a certain time and earned a minimum amount during that period, you have the right to avail of unemployment benefits. Moreover, you also have the right for partial unemployment benefits if your working hours are cut drastically or you work part-time during the week that you claim for your benefits.

When you work part-time you have to report any money that you earn during a certain week to the unemployment office of your state. You also have to report all your part-time and self-employment income so the office can calculate the amount of benefit you receive every week accurately. There are some companies that reimburse you for unused vacation leaves when you are separated from your job. In case you received a vacation pay, the state will deduct it from the amount of benefit you will receive.

This could be done over the phone each week that you receive part-time pay. If you fail to do this, you could be charged with fraud since this is part of the regulations in claiming unemployment benefits. Moreover, you may also be required to pay back unemployment benefits you received as a result of failing to report your income.
