Unemployment benefits provide unemployed workers who lost their jobs through no fault of theirs monetary payments for a certain time until he or she finds a new job. The Unemployment Insurance programs of the different states provide this benefit with guidelines established by the federal law. One must meet the unemployment requirements before he or she will receive this compensation.

After filing for the unemployment benefit, the next thing to do is to claim the benefits for a certain calendar week. This can be done through a Claim for Benefits form that contains several information. One of the information is the Calendar Weeks, which could be either one week or two weeks. An unemployment week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Normally, there will be two weeks listed on the form. Nevertheless, whichever bi-weekly schedule you have, there are times when only one week is printed.

The date when you can claim the benefits will also be printed on the form. Typically, you will be assigned to claim your benefit for the first time on a Wednesday either through the internet or the phone.  After this period, you can claim your benefits specifically on Monday or Tuesday. The website address and telephone number also appears on the form. Phone numbers are assigned based on the One-Stop Career Center that caters re-employment services in your locality. There are instructions provided when claiming for your unemployment benefits.
