Unemployment benefits compensation is for people who lost their jobs without their fault and those who meet specific requirements. In general, unemployment benefits are available for 26 weeks or more when the rate of unemployment is high. To find out if you qualify, apply immediately after you lost your job.

You can apply either on the phone, the internet or in person in your state’s unemployment office. Make sure that your employer gives you a separation packet with instructions on how to file for unemployment benefits and an application form. You can file through the phone using the TeleBenefits Claim system. Nonetheless, if you do not have a separation packet or pink slip, you can still apply for the benefit.

You should have a valid reason for losing your job, available for work anytime and has earned a minimum amount in a certain period and is actively looking for a new job. You are required to provide your address, social security number and dates and name of employment in the last eighteen months and your employers contact number as well.

Remember that you will be able to receive a higher amount of unemployment benefits if you have people who depend on your support. This is known as a dependency allowance and make certain to inquire about it when applying. You may receive additional $15 weekly for each dependent, up to a maximum of $75 per week. A dependent is a child under eighteen, a child who is under twenty-one if he or she is a full-time student or disabled, a husband or wife without a job.
